Helping families stay together
People & Pets Together
Secondhand Hounds (SHH) is excited to share that our family is growing! SHH is merging with People & Pets Together (PPT), an organization that helps families facing economic hardship by operating a pet food shelf in Minneapolis, providing pet food to food shelves in the Minneapolis-St. Paul metropolitan area, and through other programs that keep pets healthy and in loving homes.
Rachel Mairose, SHH’s Executive Director, was honored to join the People & Pets Together Board of Directors in 2019. Over time, it became clear that the missions of the two organizations, although different, are very much aligned. PPT’s Executive Director, Kim Carrier, has done an incredible job growing her vision of keeping pets with their families during times of strife through a pet food shelf model that was a first of its kind in the Twin Cities area. After much discussion and heartfelt conversation it was decided that together these two organizations will have the ability to do more. More for those individuals and families who are struggling to keep their beloved pets. More to provide resources for those who feel they have run out of options. More for our community at large.
In rescue, we often focus on saving animals instead of combatting the root of the problem. The mission behind PPT is to keep families and their animals together. Now that the merger between SHH and PPT is complete, we look forward to continuing the mission Kim sparked in this community. It is an honor and a privilege.
Our first step is finding a bigger space in Minneapolis so we can increase the amount of lives touched and establish more pet-related resources for the Twin Cities at large.
